Visit Belvedere Castle for a series of science experiences that Will introduce the whole family to the basics of Central Park ecology. learn about botany, geology, weather, or animal habitats through short demonstrations using elements from the woods of the Ramble and the waters of Turtle Pond. Description:
Fall bird migration has begun! Coming down the Atlantic Flyway from the north, many of the migrant birds will stop in the Ramble, one of Central Park's celebrated woodlands. There, they can enjoy food, water and shelter to help them gain the strength they'll need on their long journey south for the winter. Naturalist/educator Leslie Day will lead you on this autumn walk of exploration. Use the binoculars and field guides in a Discovery Kit, which can be borrowed at the Castle. Bring picture ID.

Description:
Now that fall has come, Central Park is ablaze with the colors of the season! As you hunt for their gloriously colored leaves, learn the history of some of the trees in the Park. Learn who planted them, and when. Then use the leaves to print autumnal patterns and hues on a t-shirt or fabric. Bring your own t-shirt and be prepared to get messy. Ages 6 and up.

Central Park's Night LIfe- Mid Park

Description:
Many of Central Park€s most interesting animals only come out at night. Naturalist/educator Bob DeCandido can show you how to find and identify them, especially in the dark! Come along with him on a walk through the Ramble to search for screech owls, moths, bats and raccoons, while learning about their nocturnal habits. All Ages.

Field Trip to the Hudson River

Description:
Examine the marine life of the Hudson River, from its algae to the crabs, shrimp, snails and fish that call the Hudson River home. starting off with a trip to the 79th Street boat Basin to collect algae and other organisms, children will also explore the Hall of Ocean Life, have an opportunity to look through microscopes at the tiny organisms that inhabit the river, and have fun pressing algae. Presented by Leslie Day, environmental science teacher at The Elisabeth Morrow School. Ages 9-11.

Description:
Using the exhibition background paintings, pottery, stone and metal objects to discover wildlife art, children explore the animals worlds of America. Myths, legends, stories and a visit to the Hall of North Mexico, Northwest Coast Indians are included to learn about the connection between people and animals. participants sketch and create wildlife art in clay. Presented by Spanish bilingual educator Bonita Grandal, teacher and facilitator for New York state Project Wild. Ages 9-10.

A Whale's Tale

As they help tell the tale of a humpback whale's migration from the warm waters of the south to the colder northern seas, children will learn about this fascinating whale and the other mammals that share its ocean. Each year more than 14,000 red-tailed hawks pass over Central Park on their migration south. Join educators from the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary as they introduce you to birds of prey from the New York region. Meet live hawks and falcons that are also known as "raptors." Learn about these birds life history, habitat, and how they've adapted special abilities to become successful hunters in the wild. All ages, 1pm-2:pm
